Therapists also work with patients to improve their balance and walking abilities. Aquatic Therapy is also available on an Out-Patient basis and is done in the pool at the Lied Center. Occupational Therapy treatment is provided for injuries and pain in the hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders. Occupational Therapists also do a lot of evaluations to improve ergonomic practices within the workplace. The OT will also make recommendations for home safety modifications, as well as adaptive equipment to improve safety and independence with activities of daily living such as dressing and bathing. Speech therapy treatment is usually ordered for various types of disorders including articulation, voice, language, swallowing and cognitive disorders. The therapists work closely with the family physicians within the hospital as well as the Orthopedic physicians in the Outreach Clinic. The PT/OT/Speech departments are located in the south end of the hospital. Appointments for the PT/OT Department are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Speech Therapist is available on most Tuesdays and Fridays by appointment. Personal Training Program What can you expect from participating in the personal training program? Jenny is a native of Clarinda, IA. She graduated in 2002 from Northwest Missouri State with a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Wellness/Parks & Recreation Management. She then went on to receive a Master of Science in 2003 from Northwest in Health & Physical Education. Jenny has over 5 years of experience in working within the health and fitness field. She has worked with people of all ages and fitness levels. She is very skilled in programming for special populations such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, diabetes, low back pain, pregnancy, post-rehab patients, etc. Appointments can be made with Jenny by calling the Physical Therapy Department at the Clarinda Regional Health Center at 712-542-8224. Sue Smith, OTR/L, CLT Sue Smith, OTR/L, CLT, graduated from Creighton University. She is an Ergonomic and Lymphedema specialist. Sue is able to offer Lymphedema massage and exercise for post-mastectomy and lymphatic system drainage. She has over 8 years experience as an Occupational Therapist as well as 20 years of extensive training in Ergonomics, fitting workers to the workplace using proper body mechanics. Sue is also able to make recommendations for use of adaptive equipment to increase their independence with daily living skills. She is also trained for SAEBO Flex Splint Therapy for post-stroke patients. Mike Hartman, PTA Mike Hartman is a Physical Therapy Assistant. He is a graduate of Clarkson College and has 2 years of PTA experience. Mike works with hospital inpatients, outpatients and home health patients. Kevin Ketter, PT Kevin Ketter, PT, received his B.S. in Physical Therapy in 1983 from Kansas University. He has over 23 years of experience as a PT, including 21 years working in rural hospital settings. Peggy Marriott, PT Peggy Marriott, PT, graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 2000 with a B.S. in Biology/Psychology. She then went on to the University of Nebraska Medical Center where she received a Masters of Physical Therapy in 2003 and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2005. She is certified to make sole support orthotics and is an Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Class Instructor. Peggy is also certified in hippotherapy (the use of horses in Physical Therapy), has advanced training in Myofascial Release, and has experience with pediatrics, stroke, aquatics, sports, geriatrics, and patients in the inpatient, outpatient, nursing home and home health setting. Adam Lawrence, PT Tech/Secretary Adam Lawrence started working at CRHC in February, 2002. He has a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa. Adam assists the PT, OT and Speech Therapy Staff. Lora Hicks, PT Tech/Secretary Lora Hicks graduated from Clarinda High School and Iowa Western Community College. She has over 10 years of experience at CRHC. Besides helping with office duties such as answering the phones and scheduling, Lora goes through the charts of discharged patients to make sure everything is included and completed. Lora is also responsible for the PT Maintenance Program for patients who no longer benefit from therapy but need to maintain their present exercises. Travis Miller Ed Beatty, PTA Ed Beatty is a Physical Therapy Assistant with over 15 years of experience. He graduated from Colby Community College in 1991 with an Associates Degree in Applied Science. Ed is licensed in Iowa as a PTA and spent 4 years in the U.S. Air Force (1984-88) as an Emergency Medical Specialist at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska. |
