Since opening its doors on
September 12, 1939, Clarinda Regional Health Center has proudly served as a cornerstone of health and healing for southwest Iowa. What began as the Clarinda Municipal Hospital has grown steadily over the decades—evolving alongside medical advancements, community needs, and a commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care close to home.
The hospital expanded in 1964 and 1974, ultimately reaching a licensed capacity of 47 beds. A Doctor’s Building and clinic were added in 1977, followed by major renovations in the late 1980s and early 1990s to support modern medical practices and improve patient care environments.
In 1997, the organization was renamed Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC)
to reflect its growing regional role. That same era brought significant upgrades to the Emergency Department and outreach clinic spaces, enhancing access and improving the overall patient experience.
A major milestone came in January 2012 with the opening of CRHC’s current hospital and clinic campus at 220 Essie Davison Drive
on the south edge of Clarinda. This modern facility was designed to support expanded services, advanced technology, and a patient-centered environment that meets the evolving needs of the community.
Serving Our Communities
Today, CRHC provides care well beyond Clarinda through a network of community-based clinics:
Both clinics operate five days a week, helping ensure convenient access to care across the region.
Expanding Access to Behavioral Health
In 2020, CRHC further strengthened its commitment to whole-person care with the opening of the Clarinda Mental Health Center, located on the hospital campus. Open five days a week, the center provides comprehensive mental health services delivered by a dedicated team that includes:
- A psychiatrist
- Two neuropsychologists
- Three mental health nurse practitioners
- Four licensed therapists
This expansion significantly improved access to behavioral health services for patients throughout southwest Iowa.
Rehabilitation, Wellness & Recovery
Continuing its growth, CRHC opened the Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center
in 2022. Located on the main campus, this facility delivers a full spectrum of rehabilitative and wellness services, including:
Staffed by highly skilled therapists, athletic trainers, and rehabilitation specialists, the center works closely with providers to help patients recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, improve cardiovascular health, and safely return to daily activities or athletic performance.
