CCSD and CRHC collaborate to Upgrade AED Fleet for student safety

The Clarinda School District and Clarinda Regional Health Center are collaborating to upgrade and expand the AED fleet throughout the school district and sports facilities. This project will help in providing exceptional care to all students, faculties, and community members. Sudden cardiac arrest affects more than 350,000 Americans, including children and teens no matter what their health may be. Having an AED within 60 seconds of collapse is crucial to safety and survival of victims.

Clarinda CSD currently has 4 AEDs throughout the district. Two AEDs are located in the PK-6 building, one AED is located at the High School and one AED at the Central Office. They are looking to expand the AED fleet to include 3 additional devices. Two additional devices would be located at the High School. One being placed in the auditorium and the other in the agricultural shop. The third device would be a transferable device that can transition between the Sports complex and softball/baseball fields. The additional AED’s would help provide better response time and accessibility throughout the multiple facilities.

The cost of replacing and expanding our AED fleet is $13,457.33. This includes 7 high tech Zoll AED machines, 8 wall mount cabinets with alarms, and a portable carry case.

In October, funding efforts began by a few individuals who saw the opportunity to enhance response times, should the need arise. Lisle Corporation, Wallin Plumbing & Heating, Wellhausen Consulting, Clarinda Nutrition, Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda Athletic Booster Club, and H & H Trailer by Novae have been very generous towards the efforts, helping contribute a total of $8,972.48. Clarinda CSD will be completing the purchase using the ESSER II funds for the remainder of the balance.

The health & safety of our students, faculty, and staff are integral to the Clarinda CSD. These cutting edge AED’s help complete the critical links of survival and enhance the quality of care we give to our school district, community and those that visit our facilities. Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) is proud to announce that it has received two significant awards recognizing excellence in quality of care and hospital performance. The awards were presented by Iowa Health and Human Services through the Flex program. The first award honors CRHC’s outstanding performance in electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs). These measures demonstrate the hospital’s consistent use of best practices in critical areas of patient care, including stroke treatment, ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) response, safe opioid prescribing, and prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Additionally, CRHC earned recognition for successfully meeting all eight Critical Access Hospital Quality Infrastructure Elements and Criteria for 2024. This distinction reflects the hospital’s commitment to building and sustaining a strong culture of quality through effective leadership, dedicated teamwork, and innovative care strategies. “These awards highlight the commitment of our providers, nurses, and staff to deliver safe, high-quality care to every patient, every time,” said Lisa Haffner, Vice President of Quality, Accreditation and Care Management. “We are proud to consistently exceed state and national benchmarks in patient outcomes, staff training, and community engagement.” CRHC continues to lead the way in advancing rural healthcare by prioritizing data-driven improvements, continuous staff education, and meaningful connections with patients and families.
