CRHC meals program needs additional help

Clarinda Regional Health Center’s Fresh Eats program, formerly known as Meals on Wheels, is looking for more customers and volunteers.

Fresh Eats is intended for homebound residents who are disabled or cannot drive to buy groceries or go out to dinner. Fresh Eats provides a balanced, meal and some interaction to visit with delivery volunteers. Pat Davison, Program Coordinator, said “the meals are balanced among all the major food groups and can be altered to meet customer’s dietary needs such as diabetes restrictions or if a soft, easy to eat meal is preferred. You can have it your way if you have restrictions on what you can’t eat.”

Menus are known weeks in advance, usually released the last week of the month.

There is no age limit on who can receive the meals which are prepared by CRHC’s food service department and delivered within Clarinda city limits.

“There are other food delivery services available. They are not local services and consist mainly of frozen options. We really feel strongly about what we are doing here with Fresh Eats,” said center marketing manager Bethany Muller.

Distribution for meals begins at about 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Foods are delivered in containers that can keep leftovers in the refrigerator or frozen for later use. The containers are also disposable. Meals may also be delivered frozen at an additional fee.

Volunteers are key to the program’s success! “without our volunteers, we could not provide this service, they are the true champions of Fresh Eats,” said Davison. Dietary Manager. Lisa Allumbaugh adds, “We need volunteers to fill the routes and it’s always good to have a few substitutes too.”

Joy Nordyke, volunteer and wife of CRHC, CEO Chuck Nordyke stated, “Volunteering with Fresh Eats is a good opportunity to help provide a great service and help some of our most at-risk neighbors get some social interaction which is important for mental health. My kids and I do our delivery route in the summer and I keep it up while they are in school. I look forward to seeing my folks along the route. I enjoy my time with them.”

Allumbaugh estimated each route takes no more than 30 minutes to complete. Fresh Eats does not operate on the major holidays, like Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July and they abide by the Clarinda school’s decision to close on inclement weather days due to dangerous road conditions.

“We are hoping for more volunteers to help us distribute the meals. Our numbers are down, making it difficult to maintain the same number of meals we deliver to community members,” Muller said.

Clarinda Regional Health is pleased to announce that the new Clarinda Regional Health–Community Pharmacy will officially open on Monday, June 29, 2026. Opening week will have reduced hours from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday - Friday, and will be closed on Saturday. CRH - Community Pharmacy is located at 210 Essie Davison Drive, Suite 1, in Clarinda, east of the hospital on the campus of Clarinda Regional Health Center. The pharmacy expands access to convenient healthcare services for residents of Clarinda and the surrounding communities. The pharmacy will provide prescription services, prescription transfers, and convenient delivery services to help patients receive their medications safely and efficiently. The pharmacy is open to everyone, regardless of where they receive their healthcare services. Clarinda Regional Health Center is pleased to welcome back Christopher Sporleder, DO, to its medical staff beginning May 18, 2026. Dr. Sporleder is a family practice physician with extensive experience in primary care, urgent care, and emergency medicine. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, and completed his family practice residency at Michigan State University. Throughout his career, Dr. Sporleder has cared for patients in a wide variety of healthcare settings, including family practice clinics, emergency departments, hospice services, and healthcare leadership roles. His diverse background allows him to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for patients of all ages. Clarinda Regional Health Center (“Clarinda”) experienced a data security incident that may affect the privacy of certain individuals’ data. We take the privacy and security of all information within our possession very seriously. Please read the following information regarding the event carefully as it contains steps that you can take to protect your personal information, should you feel appropriate to do so. What Happened: On or around December 15, 2025, we learned that certain data within our network may have been accessed without authorization. In response, we promptly initiated an investigation and engaged cybersecurity experts to assist with the process. The investigation revealed that certain files may have been acquired by an unauthorized actor in or around October 23, 2025. After the investigation concluded, we undertook a comprehensive review of the relevant files with the assistance of a third-party vendor and determined that personal health information was involved. We then worked to secure the information needed to effectuate notice, including address information, for the impacted individuals. The process was completed on May 21, 2026. What Information Was Involved: The accessible information varies by individual but may include an individual’s name in combination with a Social Security number, date of birth, medical information, health insurance information, financial account number, driver’s license number, and taxpayer identification number. Clarinda provided notice of this event to the potentially affected individuals beginning on June 1, 2026. What We Are Doing: We promptly investigated the event to ensure the continued security of our environment and the data we hold to understand the nature and scope of what occurred. We provided this notice with information on steps you can protect your data. We implemented additional security measures to minimize the risk of a similar event occurring in the future. Clarinda Regional Health Center is inviting the community to stop by and see the new Clarinda Regional Health–Community Pharmacy during an Open House on Tuesday, April 8, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The pharmacy is located at 210 Essie Davison Drive, Suite 1, in Clarinda. The open house will give community members a chance to check out the new pharmacy building and learn more about the services that will soon be available. Light refreshments will be provided. The new pharmacy is part of Clarinda Regional Health Center’s ongoing efforts to improve access to convenient healthcare services for residents in Clarinda and the surrounding communities. It is another example of CRHC’s continued commitment to Advancing Exceptional Care close to home. Community members are encouraged to stop by, take a look around, and help celebrate this exciting addition to the Clarinda Regional Health Center campus.
