CRHC Partners with SMC for Obstetric Services

Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) and Shenandoah Medical Center (SMC) are partnering to offer more obstetrical options in Page County. In evaluating how to best serve the patients of Southwest Iowa, CRHC and SMC felt a partnership like this would be a great option to help more OB patients stay close to home.

With this partnership, Dr. Carol McIntyre, DO of CRHC and Dr. Martee MacLeod-Kozal, MD of SMC will be leading the coordination of prenatal care and delivery for expecting mothers and patients that would like to begin prenatal care at CRHC. Patients can see Dr. McIntyre through the first 24-28 weeks of their pregnancy at CRHC and then transition care to SMC providers Dr. MacLeod-Kozal, Dr. Chase Brown, or Jona Hutson, DNP/CNM for the last trimester and delivery at SMC. Once a patient makes the decision to deliver at SMC with Dr MacLeod-Kozal, Dr. McIntyre will start ongoing communication with the SMC providers Dr. MacLeod-Kozal to ensure a smooth transition. The SMC providers will also have access to all prenatal records from CRHC for continuity of care. This option allows for patients to stay local for prenatal care and delivery. Dr. MacLeod-Kozal does have a clinic at CRHC on the 2nd Friday and 4th Thursday of each month, so patients will have the option to see her at CRHC as well as at SMC.

Dr. McIntyre has been on the medical staff at CRHC for just over a year, providing women’s health and gynecological services. Prior to joining CRHC, Dr. McIntyre had a successful practice for many years in Maryville, MO and several of her patients have chosen to follow her to CRHC. “I am very excited to be providing prenatal care to patients at CRHC. By partnering with SMC, we can provide a smooth transition and continuity of care for patients prenatal and delivery needs. Dr. MacLeod-Kozal and I will be working together to ensure patients have an awesome obstetrical experience" Dr. Carol McIntyre commented. Dr. MacLeod-Kozal added “Dr. Brown, Jona Hutson, and myself feel this will be a wonderful opportunity to offer this option to patients to facilitate fantastic care close to home. We look forward to working together with Dr. McIntyre to make this possible.”

Dr. MacLeod-Kozal has been seeing patients at SMC for just over two years and has been coming to CRHC for the past year. Prior to that, she was in private practice in Lincoln, Nebraska for six years. Jona Hutson, DNP/CNM has been seeing patients at SMC for three years after relocating her practice to Southwest Iowa after six years at Nebraska Medicine. Dr. Chase Brown began seeing obstetrical patients at SMC in July of this year.

CRHC Welcomes Dr. Jose Hinojosa, Family Practice Provider

Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) is excited to welcome Dr. Jose Hinojosa, a Family Medicine physician, to the team. Dr. Hinojosa brings more than 30 years of experience in caring for patients of all ages and will begin seeing patients in September of 2025. Dr. Hinojosa completed his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in McAllen, Texas. Over his career, he has served in multiple leadership roles, including Medical Director and Chief of Staff, while remaining passionate about providing patient-centered primary care. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the people of Clarinda and the surrounding communities. My goal is to provide the kind of care that helps patients feel heard, supported, and confident in their health,” Hinojosa said. CRHC Awarded SAMHSA Grant to Support Emergency Services, AED Training To Impact SWI Communities

Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) is proud to share it has been awarded a prestigious federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to support Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training, recruitment, and lifesaving preparedness efforts across Page, Taylor, and Montgomery Counties. This competitive grant has been the topic of much planning over the last 12 months, so that it could be implemented over a two-year performance period. These efforts begun September 30, 2024 and will conclude in September 2026. Through the awarded grant, Clarinda Regional Health Center has been working on launching a multi-faceted initiative focused on strengthening the region’s emergency response capabilities. Funding will directly support these iniatitives: College tuition for 10 EMT scholarship recipients, covering the cost of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course and certification to help recruit and train the next generation of emergency responders. Purchase of 67 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be installed in key businesses and organizations throughout Page, Taylor, and Montgomery Counties. See map below. AED education for each organization receiving an AED, ensuring proper usage and maintenance of the life-saving devices. Free community education sessions across the three counties on how to use an AED and respond effectively in a cardiac emergency. Procurement of new LifePak Defibrillators to upgrade lifesaving equipment for emergency teams at Clarinda Regional Health. Planning and hosting of a free, one-day regional EMS training event for all emergency personnel in southwest Iowa, promoting collaboration, skill development, and professional support. Attending job fairs to support EMS and healthcare recruitment throughout the region. Sending a CRHC staff member for Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training to enhance emergency readiness and safety protocols. “This grant provides critical resources to improve EMS readiness in our communities while expanding access to AEDs and lifesaving education,” said Jennifer Chambers, Director of Emergency Services, at Clarinda Regional Health Center. “We are especially proud to invest in EMT students and regional emergency responders who are essential to the health and safety of our region.” The SAMHSA grant aligns with CRHC’s mission to provide quality, compassionate healthcare while fostering strong community partnerships and improving rural health outcomes.
