Dr. John Carr Joins CRHC General Surgery Team

Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) is excited to announce that Dr. John Carr, a highly skilled and experienced general surgeon, has joined the Clarinda Regional Health Center. With over 21 years of expertise in general surgery, endoscopy, and trauma care, Dr. Carr’s arrival further strengthens CRHC’s commitment to advance exceptional care for patients in southwest Iowa.
Dr. Carr is quadruple board-certified in general surgery, thoracic surgery, surgical critical care, and critical care echocardiography. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Indiana University and his MD from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Carr completed a rigorous general surgery residency at Henry Ford Medical Center, where he also served as research resident in vascular surgery and chief resident. He further advanced his education with a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Rush University and Cook County Hospital, followed by specialized training in cardiac transplant and mechanical support at the University of Chicago.
In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. Carr recently pursued dual MAs in Theology and Systematic Philosophy from Holy Apostles College, showcasing his commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
Dr. Carr has extensive training in advanced surgical and endovascular techniques, including aortic and iliac arterial stenting, thoracic endografting, breast MRI interpretation, and complex vascular trauma management. He also holds certifications in advanced endovascular procedures and Impella patient management.

Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) invites the public to a ribbon cutting celebration for the newly renovated and named "Wellness Roots" Garden on Wednesday, May 21st, from 4–6 p.m . The event is held in conjunction with Iowa Kids Garden Day and will highlight exciting new features in the garden space on the NW corner of CRHC's campus. The refreshed garden now includes a sensory garden and several improvements to the CRHC All-Star Sprouts Kids Garden area, creating a more engaging and accessible environment for children and families. The celebration will feature activities for kids, snacks, drinks, and a chance to explore the new garden enhancements. It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate this unique space focused on wellness and fun. Clarinda Regional Health Center will be hosting it’s first “Wise & Well’ Health Expo from 5-7p.m. on Tuesday, April 8th, at J Bruner’s to bring health awareness to individuals 50 and older. This event will bring educational opportunities to learn about various topics that covers things like: Medicare Counseling and resources, oncology and breast cancer services, as well as presentations given by CRHC providers themselves. In addition to educational opportunities, guests will also be able to visit health screening booths where they can schedule appointments, get their blood pressure checked, and receive vaccines. Alongside the health and wellness activities, J Bruner’s will provide a catered meal of sliders, a couple side dishes, a fresh salad, and dessert. The meal is for all participants and will begin to be served at 5:30p.m. J Bruner’s is located at 117 N 15th Street in Clarinda, IA. Dr. Lister brings over three decades of medical expertise in orthopedic care, specializing in Sports Medicine, Adult Reconstruction, Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy, as well as hand and wrist procedures. Originally from Rancho Cordova, CA, Dr. Lister has a distinguished educational background. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of California – Davis before obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree from the California College of Medicine at the University of California – Irvine.
